In 2021, Tom was part of the organizing committee of the 2nd international Agrobiodiversity Congress. A key outcome of the congress was the 2021 Rome Manifesto, which calls for “Using and conserving agrobiodiversity [as in the wealth of plants, animals, and micro-organisms that compose our food systems] to deliver on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”.
Our paper in Current Opinion in Environmental Science and Health focuses on the perspective of how we consume, produce, and safeguard agrobiodiversity so that it can benefit the planet and secure access to nutritious food for all. We summarize the take-home messages from this congress in support of the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit to chart a path of concrete actions for a global food systems transformation.
